Search tips

Databases: Select a database from the dropdown menu or launch an integrated search on “All” Museo Galileo collections and databases produced in connection with the various research and study projects.

Simple search: Enter one or more words in the box, optionally selecting a specific search field (title, author, etc.). You can set/change the sort criteria and decide how many results per page should be displayed. By clicking "Search" you will get the list of results.

Advanced search: Enter one or more words in the boxes, specifying the fields to be searched and the Boolean operators to be used. Click here for complex search tips. You can add search filters by flagging one or more values in the available tables. You can set/change the sort criteria and decide how many results per page should be displayed. Browsing: Enter the first word(s) of the title (with no initial article) or of the subject or write the name of an institution or of a person (starting from the last name), specifying the index to be scrolled. By clicking "Browse", you will get the list of the items in alphabetical order, starting from the word you entered. There are cross-references and each entry shows the number of records associated to it. By clicking on the item, you will get the list of results.

List of results: You will find basic information about documents, as well as a direct access to the digital version, if any. You can use the filters in the right column to refine your search and click on the left to print, to email and more. Click on the title to access the full view.

Full view: You find here the complete description of the document. You can go back to the results or scroll towards the previous or next record.
