Titolo:Il libro della natura tra riforma della chiesa e nuova scienza la teologia naturale di Raimondo Sibiuda nei secoli XV-XV / Francesco Barreca.
Abstract:The study investigates the metaphor of the book of nature as used by the Catalan theologian Ramon Sibiuda (1436) in his Scientia libri creaturarum, better known as Liber creaturarum or Theologia naturalis. Sibiuda was one of the earliest advocates of the book of nature's epistemological independence from Scriptures on the basis of its interpretive clarity as opposed to the ambiguity of the Bible, in a way somewhat similar to Galileo's. Even though a direct link from one to another cannot be argued, Sibiuda's book must be considered historically significant not only because it was widely read in 15th and 16th century but mostly since, being often used as a didactic text in theological schools, it largely contributed to the new understanding of the book of nature metaphor in 16th and early 17th-century. In the following pages, after having described Sibiuda's position on the topic with special reference to the struggle against the heresies, we shall examine the spread of Theologia naturalis from the mid-15thuntil the beginning of the 17th century, paying particular attention to Reformation and Counter-Reformation areas and to those italian theological circles nearest to Galileo, in order to suggest some connections between Sibiuda's thought and Galileo's use of the book of nature
