Titolo: | Gli effluvi, i corpuscoli e il baculum divinatorium : da Agricola a Vallemont / Silvia Parigi. |
Abstract: | From Georgius Agricola's De re metallica (1556) to Pierre le Lorrain de Vallemont's Traité de la baguette divinatoire (1693), there is a debate among natural philosophers, as lively in that time as nowadays overlooked by historians of science, concerning the alleged power of a hazel rod to find mines and springs, but also buried treasures, thieves and murderers. The common explanation for the success of the divining rod is the corpuscolarian doctrine of effluvia: therefore, the history of that debate may reveal some less known aspects of corpuscolarian philosophy in the modern age |
