Abstract:
This article examines the current evidence for reconstructing a catalogof books in Galileo's personal library: works containing his marginalia; correspondence that mentions titles;inheritance documents for Galileo's son, daughter-in-law, and Vincenzo Viviani; Antonio Favaro's ninenteenth-century publications on the library; and post-Favaro Galilean scholarship that establishes connections between Galileo and certain texts or writers. The author suggests over 100 additions to the original list proposed by Favaro in his three articles on the library. In revisiting Favaro's sources, the author outlines the strengths and weaknesses of these documents, and subsequently recommends changes to 64 of the original entries. The article includes two annotated appendices for the suggested changes and the additions to the library catalog
