Titolo:Il Galileo di Cassirer fra epistemologia e filosofia della cultura / Paolo Bucci.
Abstract:Cassirer's Galileo: epistemology and Philosophy of culture - Cassirer's interest in the figure of Galileo runs throughout his philosophy, from the initial essay in the first volume of Erkenntnisproblem, published in 1906, to his final contributions during his US exile. For this reason, Cassirer's interpretation of Galileo - centred on the concept of physical Platonism - reflects the evolution of a philosophy characterised by the transition from a critique of reason to a philosophy of culture. The historiographic perspective in the writings dedicated to Galileo progressively broadened, particularly from the 1930s. They were increasingly oriented to defining the Pisan scientist's image as highly representative of the history of the European spirit and to the historical reconstruction of the many influences exerted by the Galilean ideal of truth and rationality, sometimes even in spheres quite distant from those of mathematics and physics. For thinkers like Cassirer, as well as Heidegger and Husserl, the comparison with Galileo, the founder of modern science, was no longer just an occasion for refined epistemological analyses. On the contrary, it became vitally important to reflect on the cultural and philosophical crisis of their own times.
