Abstract:Although the phrase "the chemical revolution" used to refer to "the new chemistry established primarily through the labors of Lavoisier" did not receive wide currency until the publication of Marcellin Berthelot's "La révolution chimique--Lavoisier" (1890), the author traces the origins of this phrase and finds that is was first used by Antoine François de Fourcroy in his "Lecons élémentaires d'histoire naturelle" (1782)
