Titolo:The zymotechnic roots of biotechnology / Robert Bud.
Abstract:'This paper argues that a distinctive intellectual and organizational genre, identified under the title of zymotechnology', was growing up as a fermentation subspecialty of agricultural technology, taking its institutional form from agricultural research ... The movement flowered at the time of the First World War, with the well-known achievements of Chaim Weizmann and of his German contemporaries. Its implications were far wider than merely brewing, chemistry or even agriculture, on whose joint borders it sat. Pioneers from within those constituencies therefore found the word biotechnology', or its relative Biotechnik', better expressed their ambitions.'
