"In the early decades of the 20th century, the Rockefeller Foundation established a series of schools for public health research and the professional training of public health officers ... The decision to establish this first school of public health [at Johns Hopkins] came as a result of a series of conferences and meetings between Rockefeller Foundation executives and public health leaders during a three-year period from 1913-1916."
