Deals mainly with the controversy between Georges Urbain and Alexandre Dauvillier, who claimed to have discovered element 72 and called it celtium, and Dirk Coster and George Hevesy, who claimed that their discovery, hafnium, was element 72. Also discussed is Alexander Scott's claim of priority and the entrance into the conflict of Bohr and Rutherford, the influence of nationalism, and the related conflict between Urbain and Carl Auer over elements 70 and 71
