Abstract:
The term "full moon serpent" refers to any set of 235 consecutive full moon positions marked simultaneously on a star map. The author contends that Babylonian astronomers utilized the full moon serpent to link up primitive, non-instrumental observations with their initial approaches to lunar theory, and that this serpent origin left its marks on the continuation of theoretical astronomy through Ptolemy
