'This essay will examine some elements of the process by which experimental culture entered the scientific marketplace in 17th-century Italy by considering its formulation in the writings of one particularly prominent naturalist, Francesco Redi, in the light of the circumstances of the Tuscan court where he philosophized for the better part of his life.'
