Abstract:'Although it is now known that Newton transcribed and composed over a million words on the subject of alchemy, much of the current scholarly debate has focused on the significance of a single short document...the "Clavis" or "Key"...As I shall show in this article, however it is absolutely impossible that Newton could have "composed, the "Clavis".' The author was probably George Starkey, 'a graduate of Harvard who immigrated to London in or around 1650.'
