'This paper examines several major organizational efforts in American evolutionary studies during the synthesis period, including the Society for the Study of Speciation, the Committee on Common Problems in Genetics and Paleontology, and the Society for the Study of Evolution. The history of these organizations, including British antecedents, will be reconstructed, and motives for participation will be explored.'
