Abstract:
'This paper will describe the two primary events that led to the establishment of Mount Sinai School of Medicine [1968]: the decline of anti-Semitism and the transformation of clinical research. The Mount Sinai story is important, for the founding of the school reveals much about the forces that have shaped American medical education nationally since World War II and places into sharp relief one of the prime challenges facing academic medical centers today.'
