Abstract:
'I propose, first, to offer both Latin and English texts [of the opening lines of chapter 8 of "De motu cordis"], and then to discuss them in connection with a number of topics: just which Latin text or texts ought to be relied upon, and why; what is wrong with the most common English translations; and, finally, how recent scholarship suggests these paragraphs should be understood, and, therefore, why I have translated them as I have.'
