'One of the most challenging puzzles of ancient Jewish medical literature is posed by the Sefer Refuot' (Book of Remedies') attributed to Asaph the Jew, a work which, despite its considerable length ..., offers few clues to its authorship, date or place of composition ... In this paper we shall examine several instances of Asaph's manner of incorporating Greek medical ideas into the Sefer Refuot', in an attempt to arrive at an understanding of the purpose of this curiously neglected document of medical history.'
