Abstract:
In the first part of the paper, two ivory zodiacs found at Grand (Vosges) are described and the inscriptions they carry transcribed and interpreted. Among these scales is a list of the Decans which offers a number of names new to existing Decan lists. In the second part of the paper the zodiacs are related to their contemporary context of hermetic, astrological medicine; suggesitons are made as to their purpose and origins; and the implications of the Decan list for the transmission of the Decans discussed
