Abstract:
The First and the Second Book Della Misura dell'acque correnti and the discussions regarding some aspects of Castelli's hydraulic work that developed over a period of thirty years constitute the subject matter of this study. It begins with an examination of the phase of elaboration of the First Book (1625-1628) characterized by the suggestions and critical observations of Galileo and continues with an exposition of the attempts made by the foremost representatives of the Galileian school (Cavalieri, Torricelli, Borelli) at solving the difficulties present in the Second Book. Finally, it provides a reconstruction of the events leading up to the printing of the third edition
