Abstract: | A series of scientific instruments, most probably used for teaching, are presented by the authors. The series originates in the collection started by Philip II (16th century) for the "Royal Academy of Mathematics", later to become the "Imperial College of Madrid" (1625) and eventually the "Royal Studio of San Isidro" in 1767 and the "San Isidro Institute" in 1845. The instruments form one of the "nuclei" of the Museum of Science and Technology in Madrid (Spain). Astrolabes, wood-planispheres and other instruments like the cross-staff signed by Gemma Frysius are described, and some new information about Juan de Rojas' astrolabe is studied |
