Abstract:Carlo Antonio Manzini, brother of the famous literati Giovan Battista and Luigi, was a disciple of Magini, and was extremely interested in the study of celestial bodies. Additionally, he was in close contact with the group of Bolognese Galileians that included Cesare Marsili, with whom he had a close friendship and collaborated on scientific matters. Subsequently he was very close to Cavalieri during the time that the Jesuat spent in Bologna. In the Fondo Fantuzzi-Ceretoli of the Archivio di Stato di Bologna there is a series of letters, almost all dealing with scientific matters, addressed mainly to Carlo Antonio. Their authors include Ilario Altobelli, Giovan Battista Montalbani, Maiolino Bisaccioni, Ludovico Barbavara, Ottaviano Marini, Giovan Giacomo Cozzolano and Raffaello Magiotti. These letters include evaluations of scientists and scientific works, especially in the field of astronomy. Amongst the letters (five of which are transcribed in their entirety in an appendix), the letter sent to Manzini by L. Barbavara (9 nov. 1633) is of especial interest, as it contains an evaluation of the condition and bounds of scientific research as a result of the condemnation of Galileo
