Laura Bassi e il suo Gabinetto di fisica sperimentale : realtà e mito / Marta Cavazza.
Abstract:
This paper is composed of three parts. The first part deals with the private school of experimental physics managed by Laura Bassi for a period of almost thirty years (1749-1778) and with the physics laboratory she and her husband (Giuseppe Veratti) set up in their house. The purpose of this laboratory was to allow them to conduct research on mechanics, electricity, physiology, eudiometry and to allow Bassi to teach these subjects. The second part intends to reconstruct the history of the Bassi-Veratti laboratory after the death of its first owners and its purchase in 1818 by an eccentric nobleman, Carlo Filippo Aldrovandi. The use he intended to make of it reveals how persistent and strong the myth of Laura Bassi was among the learned circles of early Nineteenth Century Bologna. The third section is dedicated to the reproduction of an unpublished inventory of the instruments of Laura Bassi's laboratory
