Panopticon Lavoisier : base de données et histoire documentaire de la révolution chimique / Marco Beretta.
Abstract:
The Panopticon Lavoisier is an international project which aims at bringing together most of Antoine Laurent Lavoisier's collections in one database. Pinakes, the relational database which has been realised for this purpose, has been already tested in the catalogue of the collection of Lavoisier's manuscripts kept at the Archives de l'Académie des Sciences in Paris (published 1999). The article illustrates the nature and contents of this catalogue and of the future applications of Pinakes to other lavoisierian collections. As suggested in the conclusion through some examples, the application of this kind of relational database to the history of science and technology opens new paths in the combined valorisation of scientific archives and science museums
