| Abstract: | Many historians postulate 'circular inertia' as a concept that unified cosmology and terrestrial physics in Galileo's mind. Alexandre Koyré argued in 1939 for the need of such a unifying principle and the selection of this concept for the purpose. Reasons are given for the rejection of that argument by an examination of its basis. Conflicts are shown between Koyre's thesis and Galileo's own writings |
