An important fragment of a West Islamic spherical astrolabe / Ernesto Canobbio.
Abstract:
The Author describes a brass globe which he recently identified as the main body of a west islamic spherical astrolabe, apparently the second survived example of this rare type of ancient astronomical instrument. From the characteristics of the globe, which belongs to the Author's family since at least fifty years, the main features of the instrument can be inferred in spite of the fact that the concentric rotating star map (the °ankabût) is missing
