Abstract:There has recently come to light a remarkable universal calendar device built by Erasmus Habermel at the time of the Gregorian Reform of the calendar. It was based on calculations made by Hermannus Bulderus in Bohemia and among its capabilities are: a correlation between the old and new calendars for dates between 1582 and 1900; a disc and a slide arrangement for finding the dates of the moveable feasts and the varying gospels which depend on the time of Easter; a large table of eclipses and their durations for the years 1582 to 1620; and finally a unique, long-range calculating table yielding the domenical letter, epact and bisextility for every year up to 4499 by means of a very simple numerical algorithm. Finally, there are given detailed instructions for the use of the discs, slides and tables for the years before and after 1600
