Main title:Videre aude : Galileo nel neokantismo marburghese / Gianna Gigliotti.
Abstract:Videre aude : Galileo in Marburg Neokantianism - The history of philosophy, as seen by the Marburg philosophers, is definitely Kantian in character. However it is also true that the thought of some of the major philosophers, such as Plato, Descartes and Leibniz, was important in defining the image of Kant as perceived by the Marburg school. As the Marburg conception of philosophy is centred on the relationship between science and philosophy, the figure of Galileo is particularly important. Galileo marks the birth of modern science, which is characterised both by the application of mathematics to the physical world and the experimental method. The Marburg philosophers emphasize, in particular, the former point (the application of mathematics), which they link to the "Platonism" of Galileo, according to their own interpretation of the platonic idea. Plato's ideas, and, later, Galileo's "supposizioni", are seen as hypotheses. But the experimental method is also given a relevant role and is perceived as an invitation to challenge phenomena, making "videre aude" an integral part of the Kantian "sapere aude"
