Studio sulla cattedra di Galileo / Vittorio dal Piaz.
Abstract:
As part of the Galileo celebrations for the fourth centenary since he was called to Padua investigations have been carried out on Galileo's cattedra - lecture desk - in view to the general maintenance of this structure that tradition hold as being connected with his teaching at Padua University. Observation before cleaning revealed unexpected interesting information. Barely perceptable graffiti and chalk marks of numbers, symbols and writing give evidence of the desk having been dismantled and put together again at various times, confirmed by archive data. Cleaning also brought to light some letters, 30 cm high, on some of the verticle boards giving further evidence that the cattedra was built with recperated materials, research has also proved the lettering to be previous to Galileo's arrival in Padua. All of the data, marks and graffiti have been digitalized and these will give information for the forming of hypotheses of the original structure and subsequent modifications, seeing that the present cattedra has clearly been put together with obvious mistakes
