Abstract:The accounts of the visits to the Royal Museum of Florence by two travellers in 1787 and 1790 are analysed in the essay. The first, and little-known account is by the Englishman Adam Walker (1731?-1821), inventor, builder of machines, and itinerant lecturer of natural and experimental philosophy. The second, and inedited account is by Pietro De Lama (1760 - 1825), director of the Museum of Antiquities of Parma, who cultivated a great interest for the sciences, natural history in particular, during the first part of his life. Though expressing overall positive opinions, the two scholars did not fail to point out several defects in the museum's outfitting
