Titolo:Il contributo di Galileo alla matematizzazione delle arti / Filippo Camerota.
Abstract:Galileo's contribution to mathematizing the arts is measured by means of the way in which his studies were received in the ambit of theoretical writings on painting and architecture. With the exception of the treatises written for his lessons on perspective and fortifications at the University of Padua, and the famous opinion, requested of him by Ludovico Cigoli, as to the superiority of painting, Galileo wrote nothing specifically intended for the arts. And yet his studies on telescopic optics and on mechanics left an indelible sign in the mathematization process of painting and architecture. Clear signs of his perspective reflections on the appearances of celestial bodies are glimpsed in the treatises on perspective by Ludovico Cigoli, Pietro Accolti and Cosimo Noferi, while his intuitions on the resistance of materials deeply conditioned the developments of mechanics applied to architecture, also significantly influencing the elaboration of the new aesthetic principles that matured within the architectural rationalism of the 18th century.
