Titolo:Coselline e sovrane bellezze : note sul collezionismo nell'età di Galileo / Giuseppe Olmi.
Abstract:In the first part of the essay, we attempt to show that Galileo's aversion for curio laboratories also originated from his disinterest for natural history and his failure to acknowledge this discipline a significant role in the process of comprehending reality. The second part takes into consideration the different attitude of Bacon, who gave a strong boost to naturalistic research and, consequently, also to the creation of curio laboratories. The third part highlights the important role that natural history played, along with other disciplines (astronomy, physics, mathematics, etc.), in the so-called Scientific Revolution, and the contribution that the encyclopaedic collections (often too hastily criticised or derided) in any event, made to the advancement of knowledge.
