| Abstract: | La tesi si propone di illustrare la vicenda intellettuale di Ludwig von Bertalanffy, con particolare riferimento allo sviluppo della sua antropologia filosofica e all'accoglienza (o meglio al fraintendimento) di quest'ultima da parte del movimento sistemico americano e della psicologia umanistica sviluppatasi negli Stati Uniti nel secondo dopoguerra Relatively overlooked by the history of science, the work of Ludwig von Bertalanffy was systematically misunderstood by his contemporaries and followers, particularly concerning his interpretation of human nature. The dissertation is divided into three parts: the first one scrutinizes Bertalanffy's intellectual roots and the cultural environment he found in the United States after the Second World War. The second part systematically reconstructs Bertalanffy's philosophical anthropology, seeking also to show that, to a certain extent, it is the very essence of his General Systems Theory. Finally the third part aims to analyze the interaction between Bertalanffy's philosophical anthropology and the cultural context it was developed in - that is Canada and the United States - showing how it has been misunderstood by the leaders of the systemic movement and welcomed by a quite different current, namely, humanistic psychology |
