Titolo:E pur si muove! : il Galilei di Frisi, Leopardi e Rosini fra Illuminismo e liberalismo / Gaspare Polizzi.
Abstract:"E pur si muove!" Between Enlightentment and Liberalism: Frisi, Leopardi and Rosini on Galileo - This contribution examines Galilei's figure from the point of view of three representatives of the eighteenth and nineteenth century italian culture: P. Frisi, G. Leopardi and G. Rosini. With his Elogio del Galileo, Frisi placed Galilei at the base of the definition of the Italian cultural landscape. The moral and literary depiction of Galilei given by Leopardi contrasts on one side with the enlightened interpretation given by Frisi and on the other with that of Italian liberal circles. According to Leopardi, Galilei's greatness is to be found in the style of the man himself and does not regard implications of his court cases. Furthermore, Giacomo's issues in publicly giving the scientist that central position in the Italian culture that he had privately recognised with certainty, are also due to his father Monaldo's anti-galilean and anti-copernican position. Rosini finds in Galileo the Risorgimento's stereotypes of the scientist as a divine tutor. In 1845 Galileo had already become a symbolic figure of italian national culture; with a connotation very similar to the prosopopeia of the Risorgimento proposed in 1832 by A. Poerio with the frase "And yet, it moves!". The resurgimental reading given by Rosini is inserted in the process of construction of the Italian national identity that will lead to the distinction of two paths destined to diverge; that of the erudite and of historians and that of politicians.
