| Abstract: | The essay goes over the theories about the false or true record of Bellarmine's precept to Galileo of the 26th of February 1616, from the first positions of Thomas Henri Martin (1868) up to the recent article by Vittorio Frajese (2009) and examines the text of the percept as related to the typology of the Galileo's "Process" documents among which it is placed. Palaeographical, codicological, formal, chronological and content examinations seem to lead, for motivated reasons, towards the authenticity of the record of the precept, written from the Holy Office notary Andrea Pettini under the supervision or guide of the commissioner Michelangelo Seghizzi from Lodi |
